Fisholow Bendix Tumble Dryer 1966

Who remembers the Fisholow tumble dryer from the 60`s, made by Bendix UK Ltd as an own label for the local Electricity Boards, my Aunt Alice had this one purchased from MANWEB (Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board).

Loved the sound of the clockwork timer, even as it shut off the timer carried on ticking, remember the steam wafting out of the exhaust hose at the back and pulling out the nylon bag to clean the fluff off the filter.

Do you remember when your Gran used a washing machine like this? The rythmical sound of the agitator back & forth, back & forth. The steam rising into the kitchen, the smells and aroma of washing powders such as Ariel, Persil, Tide and Surf. And the clothes being squeezed through the big rollers, squeezing all that hot soapy water out. Who remembers the famous Hotpoint Purple Liberator range made in the UK in 1975. Here is the model 1851 Liberator De Luxe and matching dryer.This set has been restored by a friend of mine, Lee James and would you believe is 40yrs old this year!! Does Your Automatic Washer say "Liberator De Luxe" ? Although referred to as The Purple Range , the colour name is "Amethyst". The push buttons where graduated in shades of Amethyst to White.
